Parts Needed to Add Brakes to a Trailer Axle that has 2,200 lb Axle Capacity
Question:
I have a 96 Coleman popup camper w/o brakes. The axle has a sticker that say 2200 pounds - no mfg name or part number. It has 13inch tires with a 5 x 4-1/2inch lug pattern. I purchased a set of 10 x 2-1/4inch brakes for a 3500# axle with 10inch drums. When I install the hubs, there are significant gaps between the castle nut and the outer bearing - about 1/4inch inch and one side and 1/2inch on the other. I am ready to order the 7inch brakes and drums from you, but would like some assurance that they are the right fit.

Since we know you have a 2,200 lb trailer axle you could use the trailer hub part # 8-257-5UC3-EZ which would fit your spindle and then for a brake assembly the # 23-47 for the left hand side and part # 23-48 for the right hand side.
The issues you are having now is that you are trying to install a hub for a higher capacity axle which won't match the spindle correctly.
