You never mentioned the year of your Toyota Highlander, so you'll need to check the owner's manual for towing capacities but if yours is a 2008 - 2013 model Highlander, the Curt hitch you mentioned will fit, and allow you to tow a trailer. For example, if you had a 2013 Highlander, I looked at the owner's manual and all models with a 3.5L V6 have a 5,000 lb capacity while the model with the 2.7L L4 engine has a 3,500 lb capacity.
The same should be true of all Highlanders from 2008 - 2013, but again, definitely verify that in your owner's manual. With that said, here is the Curt hitch you will need in order to tow with a 2008-2013 Toyota Highlander:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13534
If your Highlander does not have the factory towing package and you need a trailer wiring harness, the correct one is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118449.
The owner's manual also said that if the trailer is over 2,000 lbs, sway control is required, so what you will need for that is the following:
- Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660
- Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts # RP26003
I have added some links below to video reviews and installs for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
