Video Transcript for Review of Rock Tamers Heavy Duty Heat Shield For Mud Flaps - RT76FR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a brief look at this heavy-duty heat shield for the Rock Tamers mud flaps. This stainless steel plate is going to protect your mud flap from melting due to the heat of your truck's exhaust pipe. This is going to be perfect for a modified rear exhaust outlet near your mud flap. And this plate will fit most sizes and styles of mud flaps.

And it will also let you install a Rock Tamers mud flap system closer to your tailpipe. On your screen, I am including our item numbers for the Rock Tamers heavy-duty adjustable mud flap system, either for the 2 1/2 inch hitch or the three-inch hitch. And those item numbers there are on your screen. And just take the item numbers that you're interested in for reference and put it in the search field of our website, and it will take you to that system that you choose. This is going to be an easy installation and what I like in particular is the hardware comes in this nice tray that keeps everything organized for you and easy to see.

And let me go ahead and give you some overall measurements so you can be aware of just how big this is. So, the overall length of this is sitting right at about 9 7/8 inches long. The overall height, we are sitting right at about 8 7/8 inches tall. And this is about 3/8 of an inch thick. And you are going to get one heat shield.

Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

Good sturdy material. I had to install two of them to keep from my mud flap from melting on my 2017 Chevy 2500hd Duramax.

Very good. Due to the exhaust pipe being at a 45 degree angle, I had to install 2 heat shields side by side. They are doing there job and mud flap is not melting.

by:

Hopefully this will prevent me from burning through another mud flap.
Quality is good but a couple of inches wider would have been better.
I'm optimistic...much better than without the heat shield.

Works Perfect

  • Picking Between Heat Shield and Grille Outlets for Rock Tamers Mud Flaps
If the exhaust pipes are straight back and very close to the Rock Tamers mud flaps part # ERT00108 I'd recommend the grilles part # ERT200 but if they are angled or there's a decent distance the shield # RT76FR is the way to go.

  • Solution For Installing Rock Tamers Mud Flaps Close To Exhaust On 2020 GMC Sierra
When installing Rock Tamer Mud Flaps, there is not an exact distance that it needs to be form the exhaust. If the exhaust on your truck is routed straight back then you will want to install Exhaust Outlets # ERT200 so that the exhaust is routed through the Rock Tamer Mud Flaps # ERT00108. If the exhaust is not extremely close or is not routed straight back, then the best route is to install Heat Shield Stainless Steel - Qty 1 # RT76FR on the exhaust side. This way the mud flaps will not...

  • How to Prevent Exhaust from Melting Rock Tamers Mud Flap
The heat shield part # RT76FR that you referenced was designed to prevent the type of damage you have on your Rock Tamers mud flap so this would be best solution. Other option is to have a turn down welded to your exhaust tip so that it is directed away from the flap. For a replacement mud flap you'd then want the part # ERTO22.

  • Heat Shield Needed For Rock Tamers Mud Flap System To Protect From A Hot Exhaust Pipe
To prevent your exhaust from melting the Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty, Adjustable Mud Flap System # ERT00110 you can mount a heat shield like part # RT76FR on the flap. This will allow you to place the mud flaps in by the exhaust and not have to worry that they'll be damaged or allow rocks to fling up into the bumper.

  • Rock Tamers Needed For A 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 With Blue Ox WDH
Hi David, Rock Tamers require an inch of space on the ball mount shank in order to mount. If the portion of the shank exposed where you'll be installing the Rock Tamers is 2" x 2" then you'll want # ERT00108, for 2.5" x 2.5" you need part # ERT00110. The WDH shank should be what you're going off of so 2" is more likely what you'll need. Rock Tamers offers a bolt-on heat shield # RT76FR to help protect the flaps from the exhaust. If you ever change out the WDH with something that has a...

  • Recommended Rock Tamers Rock Guard For A 2005 Chevy Silverado With A 2" Hitch
Rock Tamers make rock guards for 2", 2-1/2", and 3" opening trailer hitches. Typically the higher the capacity of the truck the larger the trailer hitch opening will be. For your 2005 Chevy Silverado with a 2" hitch you'll need part # ERT00108. If you had a 2-1/2" hitch you'd need part # ERT00110. If you had a 3" hitch you'd need part # RT54FR. Whether or not you'll need the Heat Shield for Rock Tamers Mud Flaps # RT76FR for your Rock Tamers will depend on where your exhaust is angled....

  • Heat Shield For Use with Rock Tamer Mud Flap System
Rock Tamers has a heat shield specifically for their mud flaps as the part # RT76FR which is the kit you'd want since this is the mud flap system you have. There's no reason the Access one you mentioned couldn't be used but the gap the Rock Tamers kit creates between it and the flap will do a much better job preventing heat transfer.

  • Will Rock Tamers Mudflap Heat Shield Protect Flaps from Melting
The angle of the arms that hold the flaps of the Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty, Adjustable Mud Flap System # ERT00108 are adjustable so that you can add distance between the tail pipe and them as needed. If you install the heat shield part # RT76FR that you referenced though you will not have to worry at all about the flaps melting. The metal of this insulates the flaps from getting hot enough to melt even with diesel engines that have very hot exhaust.

  • Fit of Rock Tamers ERT00108 Hitch Mounted Mud Flaps on 2011 Toyota Sequoia
The Rock Tamers # ERT00108 is width adjustable from 67-1/4 to 96-3/4 inches wide. Since the wheel track of your Sequoia is 69 inches at the rear, the # ERT00108 would fit the vehicle. Whether you'll need the # RT76FR heat shield or the # ERT200 outlets will depend on how and where your exhaust exits the rear of the vehicle. The shields are sold individually, the outlets are sold in pairs. If the exhaust outlet will be within a foot of the mud flaps, I'd recommend getting the heat shields...

  • Best Way to Protect Trailer From Rock Damage When Towing With Motorhome
There are screens for flat towing set ups that attach to a tow bar, but for traditional towing on a trailer the best option are mud flaps/rock guards, the Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty, Adjustable Mud Flap System for 2" Hitches # ERT00108. These are large guards that measure 24-1/4" long x 23-7/8" wide x 3/8" thick each, and the width can be adjusted to measure anywhere between 67-1/4" to 96-3/4" from outside to outside. If your exhaust is anywhere close, you can also add the Heat Shield for...

  • Rock Tamers Heat Shield or Outlet Vent for 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 3.0 Diesel
Diesel exhaust is much hotter than gas exhausts so while the outlet kit part # ERT200 is pretty clever I would recommend going with a heat shield instead with part # RT76FR. There isn't an exact distance that's recommended between the exhaust and the heat shield. In order or the vent to work the exhaust would have to be pretty close to where the mud flap is and it would need to point straight back which I don't believe is the case for your 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 diesel.

  • Will Exhaust Melt Rock Tamers Mud Flaps
The Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty Adjustable Mud Flap Systems, like part # ERT00108 for 2" hitches, will melt if the exhaust is pointing right at them. Because of this Rock Tamers came out with their Heat Shield # RT76FR which you can add to protect the rubber and prevent the exhaust from burning a hole through it.

  • Do Rock Tamers Mud Flaps Work With Silverado With Dual Exhaust
Hi Matt; the Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty, Adjustable Mud Flap System for 2" Hitches # ERT00108 can work with your Silverado with dual exhaust, but you'll need a heat shield or exhaust outlets. Both will go on the Rock Tamers, and if your dual exhaust will be very close to the mud flaps (which would be the case if your exhaust was about even with the face of the hitch) then go with the Exhaust Outlets for Rock Tamers Mud Flaps # ERT200. You would cut a hole in the mud flaps where the exhaust...

  • Heat Shield for Rock Tamers Mud Flaps for Truck with Rear Exiting Exhaust
For vehicles that have rear existing exhaust Rock Tamers has a heat shield available with the part # RT76FR which you could use with the Rock Tamers for 2 inch hitches part # ERT00108 and you'd be set. This would protect the mudflaps from melting due to heat.

  • Will the RoadMaster RoadWing Removable Mud Flap System Need to Be Trimmed if the Exhaust Will Hit it
The RoadMaster RoadWing Removable Mud Flap System for Full Size Trucks # RM-4400 will need to be trimmed if the flaps are in the path of the exhaust. Exhaust heat can melt the mud flaps, but they can be trimmed. So, you would just want to trim away where the exhaust would be hitting the mud flaps. You could also add the Heat Shield for Rock Tamers Mud Flaps # RT76FR, if you'd rather not trim the mud flaps.

  • Recommended Rock Tamer Mud Flaps for a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500
The correct Rock Tamer Mud Flaps for a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is part # ERT00108 for 2" hitch receivers or part # ERT00110 for 2-1/2" hitch receivers. If you don't know what size trailer hitch receiver you have, just measure the inside opening to see if you get 2" or 2-1/2".
