I Have Rust and Corrosion on my 4 Year Old Trailer Hitch on my 2016 Mazda CX-5
Question:
My trailer is almost 4 years old and the opening of the hitch is getting quite rusty, to the point where there is a small amount of corrosion. Im concerned about the life and reliability of the hitch. I also would like to know what the towing capacity of my hitch is. I drive a 2016 Mazda CX5 AWD. Thank you.

It looks like you installed the Draw-Tite Class III trailer hitch, part # 76138, on your 2016 Mazda CX5 back in 2017. This trailer hitch has a towing capacity of 4,500 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 675 lbs, but keep in mind, you will be limited by your vehicle's capacities which are 2,000 lbs towing and 200 lbs tongue weight.
To solve the rust and corrosion issue, the best route to take is to use a wire brush and remove as much rust and corrosion as you can. If it appears to be mainly surface ruse and corrosion, then you don't have to be too worried about diminished capacity. If it has eaten into the metal, then I'd recommend replacing the trailer hitch.
If it is just surface rust and corrosion, cover the bare metal with a layer of paint after you've cleaned it up.
