How to Add a Bike Rack to a 2018 Ford F-150 if the Tonneau Cover is Above the Rails

Question:

I have a 2018 F150 w/ a 6.5 bed and truxedo truxport tonneau cover. Looking for rack adapters that install under the tonneau cover sides so I can attach cross bars for a bike rack. Suggestions?

I have a possible solution for you.

First, though, the TruXedo TruXport for your 2018 Ford F-150, part # TX298301, covers the rails of your bed, making it impossible to attach a ladder rack. There is not an adapter that can overcome this obstacle.

However, there are other options to carry bikes with your tuck.

The first is to use a roof rack with a bike rack like the Yakima FrontLoader, part # Y02103. It attaches to the roof rack and secures the bikes by the wheels. If you let me know what size cab you have, I can find you a roof rack for it.

The second option is to have your tonneau cover folded up and use a bed-mount rack like the Thule Low-Rider, part # TH821XTR (which secures bikes by the fork) or a tailgate-mount rack like the Swagman Paramount , part # S74FR (which secures bike by their frames over the tailgate).

The last option is to utilize your hitch with a roof rack on wheels like the Malone MicroSport Trailer, part # MPG460G, and couple that with a bike rack like the Yakima FrontLoader from above. If you let me know the distance from the ground to the top of your receiver, I can find you the best ball mount to complete that setup.

I've linked to video reviews of each of the items above for your consideration.
