Kuat Sherpa 2.0 vs. Kuat Transfer V2 for 2 Inch Trailer Hitch

Question:

Hi, I am thinking of choosing between Kuat transfer v2 vs Kuat Sherpha. Could you please help me choose. I have a 2019 Pilot with 2” hitch. I heard transfer v1 is having some movement issues, want to know how its in v2. Sherpha is solid with no movement issues. I am thinking of 3 bike option right now 2, may extend as needed. Please help. Really appreciate your help.

I can help you choose between the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 and Kuat Transfer V2, as both are really nice bike racks. Let me start off, since you mentioned 3-bike rack, if that's what you were after you would need the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 3 Bikes # KU24FR because the Sherpa doesn't have that option.

That said, between the 2-bike versions of these racks, one advantage of the Transfer V2 is its weight capacity; it has a 60 lb per-bike capacity vs. the Sherpa 2.0's 40 lb per-bike capacity. So for a heavier bike, go with the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # KU84FR.

The other thing the Transfer V2 has over the Sherpa 2.0, and the biggest factor for a lot of people (understandably) is its price. The Transfer V2 is a very nice bike rack that does a lot of things really well and at an excellent price point for its quality. That's an awfully difficult combination to beat. The Transfer V2 also has a much tighter fit in the shank than the first version because it uses what is called a flatlock cam to tighten in the hitch. Basically, you'll use a small allen wrench (included) and tighten a bolt that is in the rear of the shank to minimize play.

But … having said all of that, in terms of ease of use, quality, and aesthetic, there is really no better bike rack than the Kuat Sherpa 2.0. If I had to choose any bike rack to own (of any brand), it would be the Sherpa 2.0. One of the reasons is it has three unique color options available, all of which look fantastic:

- Gray: Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # SH22G

- Black: Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # SH22B

- Pearl: Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # SH22P

The Sherpa 2.0 will install in your hitch with the swift and simple turn of a knob, which also works as an anti-rattle device, giving you a very quiet ride. The rack tilts down and folds up with the use of a foot lever, and has security covered with an integrated hitch lock to secure the rack to your vehicle and a cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack. Meanwhile, the Transfer has a cable lock but no hitch lock.

Additionally, both the Transfer V2 and Sherpa 2.0 fit tires up to 3" wide but can fit tires up to 4.8" wide with the Phat Bike Adapter Kit for Kuat Bike Racks # APBK.

So the TLDR here is that the Transfer V2 is really good and certainly worth serious consideration, but the Sherpa 2.0 is another step up both in function and aesthetics.
