Can You Tow A Camper With Class II Trailer Hitch Receiver On 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:

I added the 1 1/4 inch Curt Class II Receiver Hitch to my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan to pull my utility trailer and occasional u-haul rental. I had the dealer add the light kit so I have the 7 or 4 pin lights available. Im thinking of adding the towing shocks to the van and getting an ultra light camper like a Scamp. If the trailer GTW is less than 3500 lbs and TW less than 350 lbs is the 1 1/4 receiver ok or should I swap it out for the 2 inch?

It sounds like you have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12264 on your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan which has a 350lb tongue weight rating, and 3500lb trailer weight rating.

As long as the trailer you choose on stays under these capacities you will be fine. If you find you need a trailer hitch receiver that is a little heavier duty I recommend taking a look at the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75579 which has a 400lb tongue weight rating and 4000lb trailer weight rating that gets bumped up to 500lb tongue weight and 5000lb trailer weight when using a weight distribution system.

To support your rear suspension while towing the camper you may be interested in the Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension # CSS-1195R which installs into your rear coil springs to help your suspension better handle added weight like towing a trailer.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
