Which is Better Round Bar Weight Distribution or Trunnion Head

Question:

Heard the reese straight line dual cam wd hitch is the way to go. Wondering what the benefits/drawbacks are if any between trunion and round bar? Why one over the other?

The difference between the two systems is basically the attachment point. One is not better than the other except that the trunnion bars are a little easier to install than the round bars that require a clip to hold them into the head. For the round bars it is easier to adjust the angle of the ball mount to get the system in the correct position for towing and weight distribution.

The Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch, item # RP66074, is an excellent system that controls sway before it happens with the dual cam system where other sway control systems only act on sway after it has begun and only work to minimize it. With this kit you will need a shank to install the head on the Reese Weight Distributing Shank, 14,000 lbs. would be a good choice, part # RP54970. The Reese Trunnion Bar Strait-Line Hitch with Shank 1,200 lbs. TW / 12,000 lbs. GTW, item # RP66084, is also an excellent system and comes with the shank so you have everything you need to get started.

When selecting the weight distribution system the biggest concern is the weight capacity of the system. If the system is too small the distribution will not be adequate and parts will fail, too large a system will cause a rough inconsistent ride. You will need to select a system with your trailers gross (loaded) weight and tongue weight in mind.
