Best Weight Distribution System for a Jayco Hummingbird 17 RK

We have just purchased a new Jayco Hummingbird 17 RK. We have previously towed a Rockwood A Frame with hitch purchased from etrailer. We have not yet picked up the new Hummingbird. I would like to upgrade to a WD hitch. I like the Fastway e2 WD and sway control Item # FA92-00-0450. I also have looked at the Equalizer Item # EQ37041ET. Our tow vehicle is a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 6300 lbs The trailer is a 2018 Jayco Hummingbird 17RK. Dry Weight is 2985 with 325 tongue weight. We plan to continue to take long trips with our trailer and would like a quality hitch. Are these hitches appropriate? Can you comment on features of these or other hitches that might be appropriate for our needs.

In order to choose the correct weight distribution system, you will need to find the total tongue weight (TTW) of your towing setup by adding the tongue weight (TW) of both your loaded ready to tow trailer and any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

An easy way to find this would involve using a tongue weight scale like the Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale part # e99044. When choosing a weight distribution system, you will want your total tongue weight to fall in the middle of the weight distributions weight capacity. For example, the ideal weight distribution system for a total tongue weight of 600 lbs. is one that is rated for 400-800 lbs. of tongue weight.

In regards to the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution or any other weight distribution system compared to the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System, the Equal-i-zer system wins hands down every time. The Equal-i-zer systems are one of our most popular and well reviewed systems by far. The reason for this high rating is due to its ease of use, 4-point sway control and high quality materials made right here in the U.S.A. The Fastway e2 systems only have 2-point sway control and are not made in the U.S.A though still have good ratings and reviews.

As long as the TTW of your trailer/vehicle do not exceed 600 lbs then part # EQ37060ET is what I recommend for you. For a cheaper alternative, part # FA94-00-0600 is still another good option. In order to complete either setup you will need a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" diameter shank such as part # EQ91-00-6080 for 2" or part # EQ91-00-6100 for 2-5/16".
