Yakima ReelDeal Dimension Fit

I am going to purchase a roof top rod rack for my 2021 Subaru outback. Your rack Yakama Real Deal Rack may fit the bill. I need the dimension from the opening to the bottom of the mount that touches the top of the cross member on the car. The Rhino roof rack dimension looks higher is it? I do not want a large rod with surf reel to hit the roof.

Glad you like the Yakima ReelDeal Rooftop Fishing Rod Carrier # Y04089. This clamshell style has a thick rubber portion to conform around the rods and can be used for ski's and snow boars as well. The measurement from the top of this rubber piece to the bottom of the clamp that attaches/rests to roof rack is 3-1/4" this rubber piece is 1" in height before compression. Clearance from the roof of your 2021 Subaru Outback will be an additional 2-1/2" from the top of your current roof rack.

If this does not provide enough clearance for your larger dimension fishing reels, I suggest you consider raising the Yakima ReelDeal with lift brackets, # Y8860037.

I attached a picture that shows reels not hitting the roof of a vehicle that are being carried in the Rhino-Rack Ski and Fishing Rod Carrier #RR572. Unless you had a really low profile set of crossbars you wouldn't have any issue at all.

What you need is the part #Y8860040 that you referenced. It fits the factory crossbars of your 2014 Ford Explorer and also fits the Yakima Powderhound ski racks like the discontinued Big Powderhound that you have.
