Rhino-Rack Fishing Rod Carrier Vs Yakima Reel Deal

Question:

Waffling between the RR 574 and Yakima RD roof racks for my 2010 Mazda CX9 with factory roof rails and factory crossbars. Would use these for fishing rods, including 10 foot surf spinning rods and one piece rods up to 7 feet, as well as other 2 piece rods. My fishing buddy and carry up to 3 rods each. Any recommendations?

The Rhino-Rack's Locking Fishing Rod Carrier # RR574F is great product that will work wonderfully for your application, you can't go wrong purchasing this product. This has universal mounting hardware that fits all popular roof rack bar shapes. Once installed the carrier will sit about 3-1/2-inches above the roof rack and has included locks to keep your fishing gear secure during transport. Please check out the attached product review and installation video for some helpful information.

I lean slightly toward the Yakima ReelDeal Rooftop Fishing Rod Carrier # Y04089. This is a clamshell style that has a thick rubber portion to conform around the rods and can be used for ski's and snow boars as well. The measurement from the top of this rubber piece to the bottom of the clamp that attaches/rests to roof rack is 3-1/4" this rubber piece is 1" in height before compression. If this does not provide enough clearance for your larger dimension fishing reels, I suggest you consider raising the Yakima ReelDeal with lift brackets, # Y8860037.
