Heavy Gauge Wiring For Lighting Functions on Trailer
Question:
Looking for a heavy wire gauge, 4-prong trailer wire connector set about 16 foot long. This will go on a simple open 3-rail motorcycle trailer. Im tired of the cheap flimsy Chinese wire sets always corroding from the inside out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 4 pole wiring harnesses we offer for trailers are pretty consistent when it comes to the wire gauge. The right turn/brake, left turn/brake and running lamp circuit wires are typically 18 gauge and the ground wire is typically 16 gauge. This is pretty much industry standard.
However, the Hopkins Easy-Pull harness, part # HM38136 has a design that will eliminate the typical failure point of a 4 pole trailer harness, which is the point where the harness meets the plug. The plug features a finger hole, so you can get a good grip on the connector without stressing the area where the plug attaches to the harness.
If you go that route, and use a heat shrink ring terminal like # DW05738-1 for your ground connection and
solder your wiring connections and protect them with heat shrink tubing like # DW05452 you won't have any corrosion issues. You can take this even further by using wire loom like # 459075-1 (sold by the foot) to protect the wiring under the trailer from rocks or debris that's kicked up as you're driving.
If you take these steps, I'm extremely confident that you won't have corrosion problems with the trailer wiring.
