Travel trailers like your Escape are especially susceptible to trailer sway caused by passing or oncoming traffic and cross winds due to their high sides that act like sails on a boat. Because of this, I'd highly recommend using a weight distribution system with an integrated sway control system. This will make towing your travel trailer a much more pleasant experience. The Curt # C17050 you'd looked at is a fine system, but it won't offer any sway control for you plus the system is rated for trailer tongue weights up to 600 lbs, which might not be enough capacity for your needs.

Assuming that the 5000 lb figure you mentioned is the fully loaded and ready to tow weight of the travel trailer, the tongue weight which is used to choose the correct weight distribution system will need to be rated for between 500 and 750 lbs of tongue weight.

I'd recommend going with the Fastway e2, part # FA94-00-0800 which is rated for trailers with a tongue weight ranging from 400-800 lbs. This system provides proven weight distribution as well as very effective sway control for mild to moderate trailer sway. You'll also need the appropriately sized trailer ball. For a 2 inch ball, use # EQ91-00-6080 or # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball. You'll need a 1-7/8 inch thin wall socket to install the ball, one is available as part # EQ70-00-4800.

If you click the provided link, you can see a demonstration video for the Fastway e2 weight distribution system.
