Parts Needed to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2003 GMC Sierra 6-1/2 ft Bed

Question:

I own a 2003 GMC Sierra vortec 6.0 extended cab pick up with a 6 1/2 foot box and I am buying a 5th wheel for the first time after being years in a travel trailer, the fifth wheel i am interested in is a 2007 heartland sundance 31 foot with 3 slides around 8,000 lbs. Can you give me part numbers and prices of everything needed to make towing this 5th wheel trailer a success.

Since you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you are going to need a sliding hitch like the Curt E5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller # 16516 that you referenced. For the correct installation kit to install this hitch in the bed of your 2003 GMC Sierra you will need a Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16418-104.

Now for wiring to allow you to install a trailer 7-way in the bed of your truck as well you would want a Curt 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness # C56000. I attached the instructions for this product for you to check out also.

If you do not have a brake controller I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. This is one of our best selling controllers because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. With a Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3015-P you will be able to just simply plug in the # 90885 and be ready to go once you complete a couple connections under the hood of your vehicle.

Check out the FAQ article I attached that details what connections need to be made under your hood.
