How to Determine Correct Electric Brakes, Bearings, and Seals for 1967 Avion Trailer
Question:
Im looking to replace the brakes on my 1967 Avion Camper. It is a twin axle and does not currently have a breakaway kit. If there is any way you have light assemblies that will fit it as well there are quite a few of them that are needed as well. Current magnets are round I can send photos when you reply. All the wiring is shot. While I have them off I am told I should replace the wheel bearings and seals. Thank you.

Ok, we can help you out with everything you mentioned, but buckle up as it's going to be a long read here. Let's go ahead and start with the brakes, and I'm sure we have assemblies that will work, but don't have any known specific fits for the brakes so what you'll need is to know your axle's weight capacity, your mounting flange bolt pattern and the inside diameter and depth of your drum. For example, the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA is for 3,500 lb axles, measures 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide (so that is the drum size they fit in) and fit a 4-bolt mounting flange.
I have added a link below to our selection of electric brakes for you to come back to once you have this info. We do have a breakaway kit that will work for you though, the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 20400.
Let's go ahead and move onto the bearings, and for that you will need to take apart your hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper to measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings ride as well as where the grease seal rides. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.
I've also added a link below to our available bearings and seals for you to take a look at.
