Lets start with adding the 7-way to your trailer to power your newly installed trailer brakes.

You will need the Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable # H20046 which will require you to cut off your old 4-way connector and I recommend using the Trailer Wiring Junction Box # 3375601101 for a clean connection to your new 7-way connector. Since you added trailer brakes you will need to run # 12-1-1 from the junction box to your electric trailer brakes. It is a good idea to use Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 to keep the wiring sealed from the elements.

For adding the 7-way connector to your 1997 Dodge with a 4-way connector you will need Universal 7-Way Connector Kit # ETBC7 replace your 4-way with a 7-way and 4-way connector and only require you to run a wire to your battery with the included 40 amp circuit breaker, and a wire to extend the blue trailer brake wire inside of the cab to your trailer brake controller. I included a video of the # ETBC7 being installed on a 1999 Dodge Pickup for you to take a look at.

If you still need a trailer brake controller I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3020-P as it is a top of the line controller that features and easy to read LCD screen and a easy to understand built in diagnostic feature that doesn't make you memorize flashing lights or codes like other brake controllers.

I included a video of the # ETBC7 being installed with a Tekonsha P3 # 90195 and Plug-In Harness # 3020-P on a 1999 Dodge Pickup for you to take a look at.
