Video Transcript for Kuat Piston Pro X Bike Rack 2-Bike Add-On Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the two bike add-on for the Kuat Piston Pro X. It's gonna be a two bike add-on for your existing bike rack, so you can carry four bikes in total. We're gonna jump right to the install and show you how to put it on there. First thing we're gonna do is unlock the tool at the end of the piston, cause that's what we're gonna do to loosen this portion, and we're gonna remove this so we can add our add-on on top of that. Let's remove this and I'll go get the add-on.

We're gonna lift it up into place, line up those bolts with the ones in the center. The other sections have a part that goes right in here on both sides, so it's gonna be really easy to line that up. I'll show you again. Slides into place. Then we'll come up top and tighten those down.

Using the tool, we're just gonna tighten down these bolts like this. You wanna make sure you do both of those bolts so it stays on there tight. We'll put the bolt right back where it was on the other section, slide the cover on and use the same tool and tighten it down again. And finally, we put our tool back into place and lock it up. That's really all there is to it to the install, I like how easy it was to add the add-on.

Sometimes you get them and there's a lot of work involved and re-routin' pieces or cables on the inside. This one, very easy. The tool is included, that's the only one you need to do it, so that's awesome. Now let's load up some bikes. With it attached, we we're able to load all four bikes and we wanted to test the lights to make sure they still work on the add-on.

It was just fine. I didn't have to do any rewire or anything. They work on the first try. Lets measure and see how much it adds to the existing platform. So about from where we add the add-on to the end is gonna be about 22 inches. Overall we'll go from the bumper all the way to the end and in total it'll be about 48 and a half inches. Those measurements are important because you are adding onto your existing bike rack. You remember that you have a four bike bike-rack plus, with four bikes on here, you can see it's a little difficult to see the tail lights back there, but you can still see the lights here at the end just fine. One thing about adding on two more bikes though its gonna be far heavier when you go to tilt it away from the vehicle. Not only that, the handle you have to hit is way back here by the first bike. You definitely don't wanna be in there and throw the latch and release it. You wanna be back here if you had to do it. Maybe get a second set of hands, but otherwise I don't recommend trying to tilt it with the bikes loaded. One thing we did figure out is if you take two bikes away it's gonna be far easier to tilt it. So I'll show you. We removed the two bikes already now I can reach in and grab that handle a little bit easier. You do have to lift up on the bike rack a little bit and then it'll tilt down. Just watch your head or your back on the handles when you're walking away. With it tilted away we can still open the back hatch. Overall, I like that there's a two bike add-on option for the piston. That's a nice addition to where maybe you get it the first and it's only got two bikes and you expand, find more people go riding with you. You can easily build on that original bike rack. You don't have to buy the four one right away. Or if you start off needing four bikes and then really only two bikes is needed, you can always take it off and put it somewhere else in the garage. I just like buying or investing in a bike rack that can grow with you and this has that ability. So I think that's awesome. Well I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helps..

  • Can The Bike Add-Ons For The Kuat Piston Pro X Bike Rack Be Used On A 5th Wheel Trailer
The add-ons (1) # KU68VR and (2) # KU78VR would not be compatible with 5th wheel use so you would only be able to use the standard 2-bike Kuat Piston Pro X Bike Rack # KU98VR. We do offer other solutions to allow you to carry more bikes, whether it's a front mounted hitch for the truck, roof rack system for a roof mounted bike rack, or even an RV ladder mounted bike rack depending on what is going to work best for you. I've attached one of our help articles that go over these style options...
