I have a solution but there is not a 5-way connector made for your 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon. You will need to first install a 4-Way Connector and then add a 5-way adapter. I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118461 which is a plug and play installation and has its own power wire that gets run to your vehicles battery to keep the harness from pulling power from your vehicles wiring harness. I included an installation video on a Subaru Outback Wagon for you to take a look at.
To convert the 4-way connector to a 5-way connector I recommend the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036 which will require you to splice into your vehicles reverse light wire for the reverse lockout on your trailer. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to help find the correct reverse light wire. I included the review video for you to take a look at.
If you need the 5th pin for a trailer brake controller, which is uncommon, you will need to run the blue wire from the adapter into your vehicles passenger compartment and plug into your vehicles trailer brake controller which will require adding more wire like # DW02414-1 using Butt Connectors # DW05744-10.
