Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab

I have a 2006 dodge mega cab diesel 4x4 2500 and we are looking at a 5er what slider hitch and install kit would you recommend? Would prefer one that wont brake the bank. Also the 5er we are looking at is a 28ft and aluminum framed dont know the weight yet, probably around 12k or less. Thanks for you time.

We have quite a few different fifth wheel hitch and installation kit options that will work with your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab. You can definitely use the Curt E5 sliding fifth wheel hitch, # 16516, that you referenced which has a 16,000 lb weight capacity. This is one of our most economically priced hitches next to the Reese 16K sliding hitch, # RP30075, which will also work with your truck.

If you choose to go with the Curt E5 hitch, you will also need an installation kit. We offer a semi-custom installation kit, # C16301-200, and a custom installation kit, # C16420-104, by Curt. The custom install kit is slightly more expensive than the semi-custom kit, but it reduces the installation time by more than half and does not require any drilling into the vehicle frame. I have attached the installation instructions for both kits for you to check out.

The fifth wheel hitch that I would recommend is the Reese 16K Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch, # RP30051. This hitch is more expensive than the Curt E5 and Pro Series 16K hitches, but I believe you will be much more satisfied with the ride quality. This Reese hitch has a 2-jaw latching system which provides more jaw-to-king pin contact than the slide-bar jaws of the Curt E5 and Pro Series Hitches.

If your truck does not have overload springs installed, then you can use the semi-custom installation kit, # RP30035-023. If your truck does have overload springs, then you will want the semi-custom installation kit, # RP30035-186. The custom install kit, # RP50140-58, will work with or without overload springs and all of these installation kits will work with the Reese or Pro Series fifth wheel hitches.
