Cargo Carrier With Ramp for RV to Carry Generator

Question:

Ive purchased a larger generator for our 5th Wheel, 10,000 watt and 180 lbs. Now I need to locate and purchase the best/strongest cargo carrier that will attach to the rear of our RV. This carrier also needs a ramp that touches the ground so I can pull/roll the generator on and off when needed. Can you give me any suggestions please?

For a cargo carrier that you'll be using on the back of a trailer you will need a fixed carrier as opposed to a folding one to have the best stability. There are a couple options for a fixed cargo carrier with a ramp for you. I recommend the Reese Steel Solo Cargo Carrier and Folding Ramp # PS10401-10402.

I recommend the Reese because it does not have a speed restriction and also has the largest usable space of 47-3/4" long x 31-3/4" wide. It also has a 400 lb weight capacity which is more than enough for your generator.

The Reese carrier comes with a pin and clip but if you want to lock it to your hitch you will need the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 63232.

So long as your 5th wheel has a square 4" x 4" bumper there is a bumper-mounted hitch that you can use with the Reese Steel Solo Cargo Carrier # PS10401-10402. What you will need is the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # E-100 or Buyers Products RV Universal Receiver Hitch # 3371804060. Both will bolt onto your bumper and have a 350 lb tongue weight capacity, which is enough for your 190 lb generator, gas, and 100 lb cargo carrier. The only difference really is that if you go with the Curt it does require you to use the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap for Hitch-Mounted Accessories # 18050. I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.
