Recommendation For Increasing Strength of Rear Bumper Attached to Spacers Off Of Trailer Frame

Question:

Hey Guys, I am looking for a suitable bumper support struct for my trailer. The frame is I beam, there is a light gauge plate welded to the end for the span of the trailer that has a 2x4 steel hss welded on to the plate then a 5” bumper welded on the hss. All the welds look bad at best. I have photos if needed. My problem is the plate is about 0.5” past the beam and hss so there isn’t an easy flush connection.

I do say those welds are bad and it appears the bumper is simply welded onto the back plate of the trailer rather than the frame. I recommend removing the entire bumper for the Mount-n-Lock Heavy-Haul'r Replacement RV Bumper # MNT43VR which you will then be able to add the Extensions # MO24VR. This will allow you to reach your frame and have bolts into the thicker frame material.

The Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts # MO22FR you found will help with the bumper attachment to the spacers the manufacturer added but they will not add any attachment to the frame.
