Lift Kit for Tandem Axle Trailer with 4,400 lb Axles

Question:

I have a dual axel fifth wheel with 4400 lbs capacity axels. I have 26inch leaf springs with 4 leafs. I would like to go to a 6000 lbs spring with 6 leafs to add some height. This is an above axel configuration. Do not know which springs to order and will need new u-bolts. Current u-bolts are 3foot x 6.5inch x 1/2inch and will need longer bolt kits as I only have about 3/4inch thread after the bolt. The springs are 1 3/4inch thick. Thank you.

Expert Reply:

Going to a thicker leaf spring with a higher capacity won't be the best way to gain additional lift as the ride quality will suffer due to the over-rated springs and the lift wouldn't be very substantial.

A much better option would be with a tandem lift kit like part # RR23QX which will give you a 2-1/4 inch lift.
