E2 trailer hitch for 19ft Sol Rover

Question:

I hear that the Fastway E2 Trailer with sway control hitch fits the Sol Rover travel trailer frame. I will be pulling with a Ram 1500. What size should I pick for the best performance? The Sol travel trailer has a dry weight of 3300 to 3500 pound. It has of GVWR of 3900 pound. It also has a tongue weight of 465 to 495 pounds. I was also wondering if I should go with the round bars or the trunnion system. Thanks

In order to choose the best weight distribution system, you will want to factor in the total tongue weight of your towing setup. That's both the loaded tongue weight of your trailer and any added cargo coming from behind the rear axle of your truck (any gear that may be in the bed). Ideally you want the tongue weight to be in the middle of the operating range for the weight distribution system.

Using the 3900 lbs GVWR of the trailer, the tongue weight should fall between 390 - 585 lbs, or 10 - 15% (585 being the highest end, depending on how you load up and distribute the weight.)

I recommend that you verify the actual tongue weight of your setup. You can use a tongue weight scale # e99044.

With those numbers in mind, I think the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0600 (trunnion bars) would work great. It's designed for tongue weights between 250 - 600 lbs, and GTW of 6,000 lbs. So even if you are on the heaviest side of the tongue weight (after you load everything) the weight distribution is rated for it. The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA94-00-0600 has the same ratings but is a round bar system. Both feature a 2-point sway control to limit the amount of side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Both round bars and trunnion bars are equally as effective, but round bars typically don't have as much ground clearance. Mainly due to that they mount under the weight distribution head. Since your going to be towing with a Ram 1500, you shouldn't have to worry about ground clearance issues as much if you were towing with a smaller vehicle. When the trailer starts to get on the heavier side, and the tongue weight is around 1,000 lbs or more, trunnion bars would be a better option.

You will need a compatible hitch ball for either kit, for a 2" ball # EQ91-00-6080, for a 2 5/16" hitch ball # EQ91-00-6100.

I linked all the parts mentioned above, as well as a few videos and a help article with some really good information on weight distribution systems. Happy Towing!
