Brake Controller and 7-way Trailer Connector for 2020 Kia Telluride

Question:

Good afternoon. I need to purchase everything I will need to convert the 4 pin factory installed hitch and wiring to a 7 pin system in order to give me trailer brakes to bring the towing capacity up to the advertised 5000 lbs. can you please help with exactly what I may need to do this. I plan on towing a travel trailer that is around 3200 uvw that will probably be closer to 4000 lbs after it is loaded with gear, food and luggage etc. the vehicle came with a 4 pin and I need to convert it to a 7 pin. I’m not sure if I will need a brake controller as well so maybe you can help me with that. I have never towed something this heavy that required trailer brakes so I just want to make sure my setup is going to be safe and wired up correctly. Any help would be much appreciated. Please help with all the accessories I would need to buy to make this happen. Thank you!

Since your travel trailer is equipped with trailer brakes, you'll need to install a brake controller.

The easiest controller to install would be the Curt Echo, part # C51180 which would wirelessly connect to your smart phone and allow you to use the phone to control the trailer braking. Since you already have the factory 4 pin trailer connector, all you need is the # C51180 Echo and the # ETBC7L install kit. The kit includes the 4 pin to 7-way trailer connector adapter and the necessary wire and circuit breaker to connect to the positive battery terminal.

I've linked to a video showing the install kit being used on a 2020 Telluride as well as to a demonstration video showing how the Echo brake controller works.

The # 391CONVPT5L you'd looked at is the ball mount and accessory kit for the Stealth Hitch that fits the Telluride. It wouldn't be compatible with your factory hitch.
