How to Install Aftermarket Brake Controller on 2015 Ram 1500 With Factory Brake Controller
Question:
The factory trailer brake system on my ram 4500 has terrible brake control output and seems to only apply brakes at certain speeds. I’m always pulling heavy trailers and need the trailer brake to be more responsive. The trailer is a electric over hydraulic and I purchased the Redarc tow-pro elite due to the compact size.. Can I wire this trailer brake without disconnecting the factory module? I can’t seem to find any info on why this module needs to be disconnected. Thank you

According to my research, the factory controller will indeed need disconnecting before you install the aftermarket controller. Before disconnecting the ITBC (Ram-speak for the factory brake controller), you'll need to get the computer flashed at the dealer so that disconnecting the controller doesn't set off warning lamps/buzzers. I was told that the aftermarket controller would not work with the factory controller still installed.
For your Tow Pro Elite, you'll also need the # 331-TPH-020 harness which plugs in under the connector located up above the gas pedal as shown in the provided video.
