Parts Needed to Add a Trailer Brake Controller to a 2004 Monoco Diplomat Motor Home

Question:

I would like to know how to install/wire this brake controller on a 2004 Monoco Diplomat Motor home. This is a PDQ Model, 40 feet in length and is a Diesel Pusher model. I intend to pull a 2011 Haulmark 8 foot by 20 ft enclosed cargo trailer which has electric brakes and an emergency brake battery moounted on the tongue. I believe this will require a charging power supply when hooked to the motor home. Please provide a list of all accessories or wiring need to complete the installation.

In order to install a brake controller on your motor home you will need at most 3 items. First, if there is no trailer connector on the RV you will start by adding a 4-Way using # 119178KIT. After the 4-Way is installed or if there is already one on the trailer, you will need a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that will help explain this installation. You will definitely need some extra duplex wire, # 10-2-1, probably another 20 feet or more (sold in increments of 1 foot).

Once you have the 7-Way installed you can use a battery charger for the breakaway system on the trailer using # 20011. This connects to the 12 volt circuit from the 7-Way.

If the RV already has a 7-Way and you want to install a controller you will not need an ETBC7 kit. Instead you will need probably 50 feet or more of # 10-2-1 wire, a 20 amp circuit breaker, # PK54520, if the trailer has 2 to 4 brakes, or a 30 amp circuit breaker, # PK54530, if the trailer has 6 to 8 brakes. You will then follow the ETBC7 instructions, for the most part, to install the controller.
