Boat Winch Option to Replace Shelby 5352 Winch

Question:

I have a shelby 5352 on a cantilever boat lift. The auto brake isnt working. I guess my first question is if you have advice on that. However, I am thinking about replacing it. I would like to replace it with something that has the same characteristics reguarding braking and the freewheel, but think I would like a 2,500 pound winch instead because I think that would be easier to lift. Is that true? I dont know whether the freewheel aspect matters. I assume that without the freewheel I just have to do wind it myself rather than having it spin on its own. Is that correct. Anyway, I have been looking at the lifts on your site, but cant figure out which one I should use. The washer that goes between the handle and the plate that the handle touches when you are winding up wore out. I have attached a picture. I know shelby is out of business, but I am wondering if you have similar washers. The outside diameter is 2 inches One issue I notice is the shelby had two vertical holes that I used to mount the lift on my vertical pole. The pole has holes 3.5 inches apart. see photo If the lift I purchase doesnt have holes that match up can I just drill a hole in the mounting place on the lift where I need it? Thanks

There is a winch I recommend replacing your Shelby 5352 with the best option being the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with Automatic Brake # DL14927.

This is a 1,500 lb capacity winch (you mentioned 2,500 lbs for capacity, though a higher capacity does not equate to easier use) which is the same as your Shelby was, has an automatic brake to stop the load when you stop cranking, is designed for use with a boat lift and can also be used with a wheel.

As far as the washer, there are none we carry which we can say will work for your winch.

This will have bolt holes that are different but you can drill new holes to mount the winch if you like. I have added a link to a video review for you to check out as well of the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with Automatic Brake # DL14927.
