Recommended Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid Behind a Motorhome

Question:

Hello looking for recommendations for flat towing a 2020 Ford Fusion SE hybrid 2.0 engine with adaptive cruise control if that matters behind my class c motorhome. Looking for baseplate and tow bar and brakes/lights. I am also curious if this can be towed on a dolly since it is FWD. Thanks

I took a look at the online owner's manual for a 2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid, and it stated it can be flat towed with four wheels on the ground, or on a trailer with four wheels off the ground, without mention of a tow dolly, so it does not seem to be an option. If you do decide to flat tow your Fusion Hybrid, here are all the recommended parts you need:

- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-524458-5
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-676
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- For a motorhome with air brakes: Demco SBS Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motorhomes with Air Brakes # SM99243

You may also need a high-low adapter such as # RM-048-4 in order to keep your tow bar level, and I've added a link to a help article which shows you how to determine if you need an adapter, as well as a link to our selection of adapters.

As far as the parts for your Fusion, the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates are great because they have removable tabs which means your vehicle is going to keep its clean look when you aren't flat towing. The Nighthawk tow bar is a great option because it has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, along with integrated safety cables so you won't have to purchase them separately, saving you an additional expense.

The Flexo-Coil wiring kit is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback to keep your Fusion's electrical system safe, and both the Stay-IN-Play DUO and Air Force One are strongly recommended because they are one-time installs which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and give you braking proportional to that of your motorhome. This results in much smoother braking than most systems which send out a pre-set amount of braking power and thus are more rigid.
