Should 205/75-14 Radial Tires be Used for Highway Driving Instead of Bias Tires

Question:

I have a 8x14 dual axle trailer which has bias tires that is only used about half a dozen times per year. The tires are original about 15 years old and I guess way overdue for replacement. Trailer is used to carry 4 wheelers and dirt bikes. Usually travel 2-4 hrs oneway. Mostly highway driving, but eventually need to travel some nominal distance on dirt or gravel roads. Do you think Im ok to stay with bias tires, or is it really worth it to go with higher cost radial tires? I was looking at your Kenda Loadstar brand ones. Thanks

It looks like you're checking out the ST205/75R14 sized tires, and when it comes to highway driving, particularly on that long of a stretch, you definitely want to go with radial tires over bias tires, depending on the load range you need:

- Load Range C (1,925 lbs per tire): Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234

- Load Range D (2,200 lbs per tire): Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235

The reason for this is that radial tires run cooler and flex more than bias tires, which means they will perform better and last longer than bias tires. Bias tires have a stiffer sidewalls and are most commonly used for agricultural purposes on uneven ground. So for highway driving, the best option is absolutely a radial tire over a bias tire.
