Replacement Leaf Springs for Tandem Axle Trailer with 13,500 lb GVWR

Question:

Hi, I have a 2006 Quantum AX6 36.5ftl, I think its time to replace the springs. Its seems to be sitting lower and I think they are original. My Gvwr is 13500lbs. I was thinking of going with 3500lb springs, its tandem axle. I have added some additional weight. sitting in loaded position my springs measure 26inch from bolt enter to bolt center in parallel line across the bols. Do I need 25 1/4 springs? My axle spacing is 33. I am thinking since they are compressed they are longer. What springs do you recommend? I need a total of 4. I have dexter axles with 3inch tubes. Thanks very much for you help! I was thinking Item # e54SR

Expert Reply:

The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/8" Long # e54SR is not what you are seeking because each spring is rated for 1,750 for the total axle capacity of 3,500 lbs. It won't be strong enough.

You were right on the other parts because axle springs do stretch over time and are spread more when compressed. I recommend the 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e78SR.
