Can the Thule OutWay Platform 2-Bike Rack Be Used with Carbon Fiber Frame Bikes

Question:

Hello, I understand that this bike rack is great for securing bikes onto the back of a car, however, should I be using expensive road bikes with this? By expensive I mean carbon fiber, top of the line components, etc. These bikes are for racing at an elite level, so I want to make sure that a trunk rack will be able to support more then one bike at a time without something like paint chipping occurring.

The Thule OutWay 2-Bike Rack part # TH45JV contains an updated cradling system with road dampening technology which as the name states reduced shocks and vibrations transferred to the bike while traveling down the road therefore is suited for use on bikes with a carbon fiber frame and there will be no issues with paint chipping. To be extra safe, I would suggest adding the Thule Carbon Bike Frame Protector # TH984101 for another layer of protection. In regards to weight, this is 33 lbs per each bike so as long as the road bikes are under this you will be good to go.

You could also look at the OutWay Platform trunk bike carrier. It is made for Carbon fiber bikes.

These are both excellent carriers. Take at look at the videos of each and see what you think.
