How To Convert a 4-Way to 7-Way On a 2013 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hi, just purchased a camper trailer with a 7 pin connector and electronic brakes. I have a 2013 Subaru Outback 3.6R with a 4 pin connector. What would I need to get my trailer lights and electronic brakes working? Any e brake controller you would recommend, looking for best bang for buck. Thanks!

In order to convert the 4-way to a 7-way on a 2013 Subaru Outback I have two options, cost effective and easy install. I highly recommend going the easy install route as the difference is pretty substantial in regards to modifications needed to the vehicle. This option entails the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 and 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L. This option only really requires a power and ground wire to be run.
For a cost effective option, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 with the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160. This option will require both power and ground wires as well but you also have to splice into wires on the vehicle and run wires in and out of the cabin.
