Cargo Carrier For 2008 Town and Country Mini Van that Will Allow Rear Hatch to Open

Question:

I was wondering if you could tell me whether I would be able to open the rear hatch door of my 08 Town and Country mini-van when I have one of the hitch mounted cargo carriers on. Im debating between one that folds vs. a standard one. And if I have to remove the carrier in order to get my rear door open anyway, then theres not much of an advantage to getting a folding one. Any info you might be able to provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

When the 24x60 Folding Cargo Carrier for 2 inch Trailer Hitches, # e98874 is installed on the back of your Town and Country Mini Van you will be able to open the rear hatch as long as the cargo you have loaded on the carrier is not too high. The taller the load the more likely that it will interfere with the rear door.

You can do some measuring to see how high the load could be before causing a problem. At the back of your vehicle, measure straight out from the center of the hitch pin hole 19-1/2 inches then 2 inches up from the top of the hitch opening. This is where the load platform will start when the carrier is installed on your van.

Next you can swing the door open and measure or just get an idea of how much clearance you will have for the load on the cargo carrier. When the carrier is folded you will not be able to open the rear door without lowering the carrier first. When selecting a carrier the longer the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier will give you the most clearance for your hatch to open. I have posted links below to some of our 2 inch hitch cargo carriers that may work for you.

Additionally, this carrier offers a tilt feature. It allows you to tilt your cargo away from the vehicle while it is loaded. This would allow you more access to your doors.

You also might consider a 2 inch hitch lock to secure your carrier to the hitch like # e98880.
