Solutions for Towing Pop-Up and Carrying Bikes Simultaneously
Question:
I would like to tow my 2000 lb Flagstaff 8foot pop-up and use my Swagman 4 bike carrier as well. I am towing with a 2009 Honda Pilot. The height of the vehicle requires me to use a down ball mount to two the trailer level. Can I use the combination of the down mount, the 4 bike carrier and the dual hitch adapter to two the trailer?

Expert Reply:
Using a ball mount in the Curt Dual Receiver Adapter will place quite a bit of downward leverage on your receiver. You will then have three connection points between the receiver and the trailer coupler, which will add a considerable amount of bouncing, which is why I would not recommend using it for this purpose.
A much better option would be the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount, part # D210. The ball mount can handle 750 lbs of tongue weight, with the receiver portion having a capacity of 350 lbs, although you will still be limited to the capacity of the lowest rated component of your towing system. Because the ball mount is integrated into the unit, you will not have an additional component to add bounce to the system.
The weight of the bikes plus the rack and the tongue weight of the trailer cannot exceed the tongue weight capacity of your hitch.
