You will not want to hook of the brake controller wires color for color because they will not match up. On a brake controller, white is ground, black is 12 volt power to the controller, blue is output to the trailer brakes, and red is input from the brake switch.

If your 2001 Dodge Ram came with a 4 or 7-Way trailer connector, you can use # 3020-P or # 3020-S. One end plugs into a port on the truck and the other end has blunt cut wires that you would attach to the brake controller color for color.

The factory port is located at the top of the white box on the firewall behind the brake pedal.
