Trailer Hitch and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2019 Subaru Forester

I have my sights set on a 2019 Subaru Forester with plans to tow my 16 foot pop top which is fitted with electric brakes. what hitch and electric brake system do you recommend.

For a hitch for your 2019 Subaru Forester we have the EcoHitch part # 306-X7391 which is my favorite option as it's the most hidden. But it's a little more involved to install and costs a bit more. So for an easier to install option that's bit more visible we have the Draw Tite part # 76271 as well.

For wiring you'll need to start with a 4-way and then convert it to a 7-way so that you can install a brake controller. For that the Curt kit part # C56040 is the easiest to install and most reliable option.

Now for a brake controller I really like the Curt Echo Mobile # C51180. Basically this just plugs into an active 7-way and once you sync it to your phone it's ready to go. This brake controller is proportional which means it senses the amount of deceleration your tow vehicle is applying and applies the trailer brakes in a relative way.

To convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller only requires the 7-way adapter kit part # ETBC7L. The 4-way of this plugs into the 4-way of your vehicle and once you run the included wiring and breaker up to the vehicle's positive battery post it's active enough to allow the Echo to function. This saves you from having to hardwire in a brake controller which requires tapping into the brake signal of your vehicle and running a few other wires too.
