For your 2020 Jeep Compass I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13363. It's rated at 600 lbs of tongue weight, and 4,000 lbs of gross trailer weight. However I looked up the owner's manual for your Compass, and it is rated for a maximum of 2,000 lbs towing, and 200 lbs for tongue weight depending on how it is equipped. It's pretty common for hitches to be rated higher than the vehicle they go on, but you want to use the lowest rating out of all the components used in your towing set up and not exceed the manufacturer's limit.

One of the biggest benefits to the Curt hitch is the fact that the cross tube is hidden, that not only gives a nice clean look once installed, but it will provide better ground clearance.

If you need wiring for your Compass I recommend Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56369. This will give you all the required lights for your trailer, stop, turn signals, and tail lights.

If your trailer has brakes and you need a brake controller, you can use 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L. This will work with the T-one wiring, and upgrade it to a 7 way connector. The 7 way will plug into the 4 pole connector, and then a power wire routes to the battery with an included breaker.

For a brake controller I recommend the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180. The Curt Echo plugs in between the 7 way on your Compass and your trailer and is operated with your smart phone. I really like this design, because it alleviates the need to mount a box (traditional style brake controller) to the dash, so no holes on the dash!

For a ball mount you'll need to measure the height of your trailer's coupler when level. I attached an article on how and where to measure for a ball mount, as well as several videos for you to check out of the linked products.
