Can the Trailer Connector for the Curt Wiring Harness On a 2018 Ram ProMaster Be Routed Outside
Question:
Im curious about the aftermarket vs. OEM wiring options. Both seem similar that you have to run the power wire to the battery. I like how the OEM allows you to mount on the outside. Do all of your options have to go through the door? I was told by the dealer that the PCM may need to be flashed since mine didnt come with the tow package. Is this true? I know there is no tow/haul buttons in these vans. Is the PCM flash necessary to change shift points, braking, etc. when it sees the trailer plugged in?

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56270 which is a fit for a 2018 Ram ProMaster City can be installed so that the trailer connector is stored outside of the vehicle. In order to do so you will simply need to route the trailer connector through a grommet in the floor outside to the rear bumper. I don't have exact instructions on this but essentially you just need to peel up the carpet/panels near the rear bay access doors and then look for a grommet you can use to route the trailer connector outside.
In regards to programming, there will be none required for the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness but I can't speak for the OEM trailer wiring harness. That said, the programming you are referencing wouldn't change shift points or adjust any vehicle parameters, just turn circuits on for the trailer lights.
The only other thing you would need with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness to install the connector outside the vehicle is a way to secure the connector. The No-Drill Mount part # 18140 and the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat part # 18144 would have you covered.
