What are Differences Between Curt and Tekonsha Harnesses?

Question:

For the wiring harness kits for 2016 Ram promaster City there are 2 shown, 1T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # 118719 2Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # C56270. 1. What are the differences? 2. Both have a video for the parts but only one has an installation video, are they installed the same? 3. It says in the description of the tekonsha that a separate power converter module is required and under specs is list just converter. Does that mean it is included in the kit? 4. The tekonsha says it might need an aftermarket electrical mounting box or bracket sold separately. What part number would that be if needed? The video shows double sided tape used to mount a box, is that the same piece referred to as needing the the electrical mounting box? Or is that 2 different parts of the kit?

There are a couple of differences between the wiring harnesses for your 2016 Ram ProMaster. The biggest difference is the technology used. The Curt # C56270 uses what is called Surface-Mount Technology. Essentially what this does is almost eliminate the draw on tail light circuits. which traditionally draw the most amps. The Curt harness also has a maximum amperage of 7.5 amps per circuit on the stop and turn lights, while the Tekonsha # 118719 has a max amperage of 4.2 amps per circuit. Due to this, the Curt is less likely to cause shorts and it's the harness I recommend for you.

The two harnesses are not installed in the exact same way, though they will ultimately each provide the same function. I have included links to installation instructions for each harness. As for the power module with the Tekonsha, that is built into the T-One connector. A mounting box does not come with the kit, and yes that is part that is referred to should you decide on a mounting box.
