Question:
My indicator light does not work when pressing brake pedal or manual switch. Does that mean brake controller doesn’t work? How can I check without hooking up my fifth wheel? Lights all work correctly but don’t k ow if brakes engage. Reese 74642 Brake controller

Expert Reply:
Per the owners manual when there is no indicator light through the pedal or manual operation it is often because 1) no power to the unit through the black battery wire or 2) output is adjusted too low.
To troubleshoot the first potential cause, check the connections at the battery, circuit breaker, and brake control. To troubleshoot the second potential cause, see attached readjustment steps.
I've also included a help article for how to troubleshoot brake controllers with additional considerations there.
