Can 2017 Honda CR-V Transport a Vespa Scooter that Weighs 250 lbs
Question:
Have a 2017 Honda CR-V with a Class III hitch receiver rated for Max Gross Trailer Weight of 4800 LBs and 675 Lbs Gross Tongue weight. I am looking to purchase a Black Widow or similar scooter carrier to haul a Vespa scooter that weighs approx. 250 lbs and I believe the carrier itself weighs about 45-50 lbs.so I am assuming that the total load is about 300 lbs. I think the CRV can handle the overall weight but not sure About the tongue weight for the CR-V I don’t fully understand that concept. Can you help me figure that out and if it is safe to try and accomplish this? I’ll be driving about 500 miles. Called Honda but can’t seem to get a straight answer. Thank you

I did some checking and while you have a trailer hitch with more than enough capacity for the weight of your cargo carrier your 2017 Honda CR-V only has a tongue weight rating of 150 lbs. So this means you'd be limited to only carrying up to 150 lbs at the trailer hitch since you are limited by the lowest rated component in a towing setup.
So your best option will be a small utility trailer for the Vespa you plan to tow such as the Detail K2 part # K2MMT4X6. You'll need trailer wiring as well if you don't have it currently. For that we have the easy to install and reliable kit part # 118741 which fits your CR-V.
