What Type of Trailer Wiring Connector to Put on Wiring of Trailer Jack to Easily Power It
Question:
Im looking at the Phoenix UF38-944055 for my Featherlite car trailer that has two 4900 lbs axles. The heaviest vehicle on the trailer is a 6000 lbs Jeep. I realize this jack may be overkill, but Im ok with that. I want to be able to tow the trailer behind different vehicles so I need a plug-in system that can handle the 30 amp motor. For instance, I tow the trailer, with my Jeep on it, behind an RV and when we stop for the night, I use the Jeep to move the trailer to a parking lot. So I need a connector that I can wire on the jack side that I can plug in and out of various vehicles. Suggestions as to what type of plug to use? An RV dealer installed a flat 4 pin trailer harness on my RV but I dont think that can carry the load. I dont see an amp rating on the harness, but I dont think it is 10 gauge wire.

The type of trailer connector you'd need to install on the wiring of the Phoenix Electric Trailer Jack with Remote # UF38-944055 to allow it to plug into a vehicle connector and work would be a 7-way. 7-ways have a circuit designed for 12 volt accessories that runs to the vehicle's positive battery post. This is the pin in the 1:00 position if you were looking into the connector on a vehicle.
So you could take the power and ground wire from the powered trailer jack # UF38-944055 and run it to the part # PK12706 and you'd be able to easily operate the jack.
A 4-Way connector would not have a 12 volt accessory circuit so you'd need to swap to the 7-way or just run the jack to the 7-way.
