What Causes Trailer Leaf Springs To Break Continuously

Question:

We have been full-time in a 2011 Landmark 39foot 5rh wheel for nearly 8 years. 2 years ago had broken leaf spring after hitting very bad pothole. Replaced all 4 at that time. Now just broke one, replaced with spare , and 2 days later broke opposite side. Have not changed weight load at all. Still 1000 miles from our winter location, so nervous it will happen again. Will pick up another spare, and lucky husband is very capable of replacing. Any ideas of what might be causing all of a sudden?

Yes, leaf springs must be replaced in pairs which is why one side left go and then the other shortly after. In regards to the stent you get on a full set of leaf springs, there are really a ton of variables present here so it is hard to predict. However, if you are a full-timer then odds are your trailer is going to be subjected to harder conditions and most likely more weight than the average trailer therefore your suspension components will wear faster.

I have attached our leaf spring selection for you below. If you can give me your axle capacity as well as your center to center eye measurements I can get you setup with the correct ones but you might also think about going up in capacity. Also, the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs part # TSS-107-40 (leaf springs over axle) or part # TSS-106-40 (axle over leaf springs) could be added to each axle as well which would serve as not only a fail safe but also work to reduce wear on the leaf springs allowing them to last longer.
