Where Should the 5th Wheel Hitch Sit On a 2015 Ford F-350
Question:
What is the proper location for a fifth wheel install in my truck. Reese 20k slide hitch Ford F350 4x4 Supercrew 4 door single rear wheel with 6.5 ft bed - bed/frame were not pre-equipped for a fifth wheel so rails had to be mounted in the bed. Had a flat tire on my 5th wheel RV and the roadside service guy said my 5th wheel was too far forward and should be mounted on the rear axle. How can I check the location to determine if it is correct ? Id love to have more clearance around the cab to maneuver and turn. Thank you,

Expert Reply:
The correct placement of a fifth wheel hitch will vary from vehicle to vehicle but over the center of the rear axle is most common. That said, most newer trucks have pre-existing holes in the frame so the install kits like the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit part # RP50026-58 only allow the hitch to be positioned in one spot which is what the manufacturer determines to be the best for that particular vehicle. I have attached a photo of the above kit on a 2015 Ford F-350 for reference but it does not look like you have anything wrong.
