Minimum Roof Thickness For Use of MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent

Question:

Hello, I wonder if you could help me. I live in the UK, and have a 2006 Chevy Express 3500 passenger van. I am currently converting it into a camper van. I would really like to get a Maxxfan deluxe to fit in the Chevy, but I really need to know the MINIMUM intrusion dimension into the cabin area. As you would know, the Express is a low roof van, so headroom is critical. I have around 35 mm between the underside skin of the roof and the underside of the cross members. I will install 8 mm tongue and groove panels as my new ceiling, giving an overall ceiling depth of c43 mm 1-3/4. I have trawled the internet for the answer to this question, without answer! Maybe you can help, maybe you cant... Kind regards,

I believe you are asking about the minimum roof thickness needed to install the MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent with 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote # MA00-07500K. The answer is that you need a roof which is a minimum of 1-1/8 inches thick.

To install this you will need Sealant # 0160297. I have added a link to a video review of this vent for you to check out as well.

WHY is the minimum roof thickness 1 1/8 inches. My roof is 7/8 inch thick and when I dry fit the pieces, everything seems to fit fine without adding a spacer.Thanks.

If everything fits without issue, then I don't see a problem mounting the vent onto your thinner roof without any other modifications or spacers. The 1-1/8" dimension is the manufacturer's recommendation, but there is likely some wiggle room under that number.
