We have a 1987 Winnebago Chieftain. Both AC units are old and crappy and need to be replaced. What new unit would fit?... What should I be looking for?

The best way to choose a new air conditioner for the 1987 Winnebago Cheiftain is to choose an air conditioner with the same BTU as your existing one. The most common BTU ratings are 13,500 BTU and 15,000 BTU however going up in BTU won't be an issue. You also want to take into consideration if your Winnebago has air ducts or not. Normally if you have an air distribution box the motor home doesn't have ducts. The photo that you sent looks like an air distribution box so you most likely do not have air ducts.

To replace the two old crappy AC units in the Winnebago, I recommend Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Air Distribution Box and Start Capacitor part # ACM135C which will come with the air distribution box and start capacitor. The air distribution box has adjustable registers that allow you to divert the air if you need to. The start capacitor will allow the air conditioner to start with fewer watts when using a generator. You could also add a heat strip part # ACMHD for chilly mornings.

If you do have air ducts please let me know and I can assist you further.
