Can the Factory Trailer Hitch On a Fleetwood Jamboree Be Used for Towing

Question:

label near RV hitch states: max gross trailer wt LB 3500, Max tongue wt LB 350. Our jeep weighs 3720 lbs. RV is a 2003 Ford V10 gas, fleetwood jamboree 31. Can this hitch pull it safely without causing issues to motor/transmission? What do I need?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The factory trailer hitch on most Fleetwood Jamborees is not really suitable for flat-towing as it does not have a sufficient weight capacity. The issue has little to do with the motorhome's engine/transmission but rather the actual strength of the connection point which is the trailer hitch. In order to obtain the needed weight capacity for your Jeep you will need to upgrade.

I recommend the Multi-Fit Motorhome Trailer Hitch part # 5350 which is rated for up to 5,000 lbs. The Multi-Fit Motorhome Trailer Hitch should also not be too difficult to install either as the brackets are very basic and feature a two hole installation.
