How To Determine If The Pop&Lock Power Lock Conversion Work On My Truck Cap

Question:

I am searching for a truck cap that has a power locking rear door and also has vented windoors on the sides. It seems no one makes a good one for a Tundra except snugtop and they are only west coast. Leer can cobble one together but say the windoor doesnt fit the indent in the fiberglass cap for the standard window and looks odd. I am happy to buy an A.R.E. CX Classic and it sounds like the Pop and Lock may fit. I just want to verify before I buy the cap that I can get the power lock I want. The information on line is confusing at best. I see it says it has to be a frameless bonded door The CX classic has an aluminum framed door but someone also said it fits the X series of A.R.E. I know the CX evolve and Revo have frameless doors but they wont fit a Tundra because they chose to glue the back doors on and they fell of and broke so they were recalled and tundras models never got built according to the dealer. Not sure what the real story is for the CX classic but wanted to be darn sure before I buy a CX classic. It has a single T handle in the middle.

So, there are a few things to look at when considering purchasing a truck cap that can be used with the Pop & Lock Power Lock Conversion # PAL9772 , which can help you determine whether or not it will work with a particular cap. Since we don't sell truck caps, I'm not going to be able to determine specifics on different manufacturer's truck caps, but I can tell you what the Pop & Lock requires.

The main thing you'll need to look at is the handle on the cap; if that cap has a riveted handle or clearly uses rods to open and close the truck cap, the Pop & Lock is not going to work. You will need to find a truck cap that uses cables to retract the pins that lock the rear glass as opposed to steel rods; usually rivets on the handle are a dead giveaway that it uses steel rods to move the pins on the latch, as opposed to cables.

If the A.R.E CX Classic you're looking at has cables as opposed to rods, you will be able to use the Pop & Lock Power Lock Conversion # PAL9772 with that truck cap. Since you're trying to find a cap that will allow you to use that lock, I would make that the most important thing your new cap features. If you can send me a picture of the handle/cable mechanism on the new cap you're looking at, I can help confirm whether or not it will work for you.
