Can the Fulton 15 Inch Trailer Fender Be Used With 14 Inch Wheel To Provide More Clearance

Question:

Our boat trailer has 205/75 R14 tires. I bought the fenders just like this but for 14” wheels and they didn’t fit. When the fender is resting on the mounting bracket the bracket supporting the side step like it should be the top step is literally sitting on the top of the tire. So basically the fender from top step to side step is not deep enough. Will this one fit with our tire size? Also, How do these hold up to blow outs compared to metal fenders understanding that blow outs can do a lot of damage? Should I be expecting to replace these pretty much every time I have a blow out?

I have attached a photo for you of the Fulton Single Axle Trailer Fender part # F008595-2 which you can use to determine compatibility with your trailer. That said, it would really be hard for me to give you a definitive yes or no answer. The issue you are having could be with the location of your fender mounting brackets which can be moved. If you do not want to move these the above 15" fenders will provide more vertical space from the top of the step to the side of the step so this may very well fix your issue without having to move your fender brackets.

In regards to a blowout, the longevity of the fender would vary to the extent of the blowout. If the tire is completely shredded then it would most likely take out the fender as well but if you catch it in time then you should be able to save the fender.
