Recommended Trailer Wiring For 2017 Toyota Highlander To Tow Camper With 7-Way Connector

Question:

Im buying a 2017 Toyota Highlander LE V6 for towing a small travel trailer. The trailer has a 7 pin connector and I need the same on the highlander. Is there a wiring kit/ plug in kit for this. Thanks

If you have the factory tow package and have a converter under the dash of your 2017 Highlander the wiring harness I recommend is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 56042. This simply plugs into the factory tow package wiring harness located behind the driver side trim panel in the rear cargo area.

If you do not have a toe package and converter, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118449. The connection points for this are located under the spare tire compartment. I have attached a photo that shows where the wiring is located.

Installation of the above mentioned harnesses will give you a working 4-way trailer connector. You will then need part # ETBC7. This plugs into your 4-way and additional wiring will need to be run. I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring is run for the # ETBC7 and for a brake controller.

If you have brakes on your camper and need a brake controller I recommend part # 90195. This is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to install and operate.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
